The Global Fine Wine Podcast

Yalumba Wines with Louisa Rose (Barossa Valley, South Australia)

Ross Anderson Episode 8

In this episode Ross Anderson interviews the amazing Louisa Rose, Chief Winemaker for Yalumba based in South Australia's Barossa Valley. From the Hill-Smith family, who have owned and operated the winery for over 170 years, to their community of growers, the whole Yalumba family is dedicated to the same thing: making exceptional wine.

Lou is passionate about creating great Australian wine. During her 20-year + career at Yalumba, she has become one of the world’s most respected winemakers. She has, almost single handily forged an identity for Australian Viognier, winning multiple awards in the process, all while leading her team to ever greater heights.

Lou wears many hats at Yalumba; award winner, wine judge, board member, natural leader. She is an inspiring figure in Australia’s wine industry and a proud ambassador for Yalumba’s own brand of progressive winemaking. She is the custodian of both Yalumba traditions and innovation at the winery.

This interview is filled with an array of topics from award winning Virgilius Viognier, Grenache and the ever mouth-wateringly delicious Pewsey Vale Riesling to sustainability initiatives and travelling through Spain.
